I saw the update popup in SSMS (latest version) prompting to install the SQL Prompt update. I click to install it and I get an error complaining about SSDT missing in Visual Studio 2015. This has never happened before. How do I fix this?

Hi @TUellner
This message shows when the SQL Server Data Tools extension is not installed into Visual Studio, which is required by SQL Prompt in Visual Studio. To install SSDT please follow the instructions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssdt/download-sql-server-data-tools-ssdt?view=sql-server-ver15
Thanks,
Owen

I have SSDT installed in Visual Studio 2019 and 2017. I don't use VS 2015. It's probably only on my machine because of SSMS 17.x which is still installed on my machine. This has never been an issue for any previous update to SQL Prompt.
P.S. I don't even use SQL Prompt in Visual Studio. -
I am having the same issue; VS 2015 was never completely installed on this machine, but rather as part of other Microsoft tool installs. I use VS 2017 and 2019 and both have updated successfully in the past.

I found the SSDT installer for VS2015 but I have zero confidence that installing the older version with the newer versions already installed that it won't mess up my current environment. Why does SQL Prompt all of a sudden need this installed when it didn't in 10.6.2 (which is currently running on my machine).

RG is telling us that a 6+ year-old product, that we may or may not have ever used is required to update a CURRENT, SHIPPING Red Gate product?
Are you serious? -
Hi,
We've put in a fix for this which will be in SQL Prompt 10.6.5. This should be available later this afternoon.
Thanks,

Thanks Owen. The 10.6.5 fixed work. I'm back to being able to update SQL Prompt.
