Dear FoRGs,
I hope everyone is doing OK! For those that don't know, I'm a content specialist/editor here at Redgate, primarily responsible for our technical product articles (https://www.red-gate.com/hub/product-learning). However, recently I've also been helping out trying to improve the quality of our tool documentation.
Most recently, I've helped construct a new section in the SQL Monitor
documentation that aims to help users understand how to use the tool
to investigate some of the more common causes of SQL Server performance or
maintenance problems:
Investigating
Common SQL Server Problems using SQL Monitor
The initial four topics we've covered are blocking,
deadlocks, tempdb usage and disk space use and database growth.
The idea was to explain the possible source of trouble, offer simple workflows
in SQL Monitor to track down the root cause, and then briefly describe possible
resolutions.
It would be great to get some feedback from you.
Is this sort of section helpful, in the docs? How could it be improved? Are
there other problems you'd like to see the section cover, perhaps ones that you
currently experience but have trouble resolving using SQL Monitor (or any tool
for that matter)?
If you're willing to share simple methods/workflows you've
developed to investigate particular SQL Server performance problems, even better.
Look forward to hearing for you!
Cheers,
Tony.
