Uanble to install User access Service

Hi!

Whenever I try and create a User Access Service I get the error message:

Cannot Connect to Internet Information Server (-2147221164)

This error occurs when the progress bar reaches the installing metabase Keys and Values section.

I am running Small Business Server with SP2, Exchange 2003, ISS 6.0 with the default website set to ASP Net ver. 2.0.50727.

Any help very much appreciated

Just checked my post and realised I hadn't put which version of Small Business server I'm using its Small Business Server 2003.

    Some additional details are:

    It is the domain controller
It is a blackberry server running Blackberry manager 4.1.4.15
It is running Office Sharepoint Server 2007
    SQL Server 2005
    POPCon
    AVG 8.0

Yes I know this little server runs a hell of alot of stuff!

    Andy,
yes, your server runs a lot of stuff. But this shouldn't affect the setup.

Do you try to setup the UAS within the default website or did you choose to setup the UAS in a separate new website using a dedicated port number?

Did you try to open the IIS management console to check if the IIS admin service works fine and the IIS metabase can be accessed correctly.

Can you open the Default Website Node with the IIS MMC?

    Is our SBS2003 in production?
I am somewhat unsure if it is s good decision to add a web application to the SBS default website.

    Cheers,

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:

On the first attempt I tried to set the UAS ina seperate website on a dedicated port (because as you said its not wise to mess with default site on a SBS server), however I got the error I mentioned.

I tried a couple more times before I decided to bite the bullet and install on the default website on port 80 (no need to worry its a test server not a live one), however same message again.

I have opened up the ISS manangement console and the ISS admin service appears to be running fine and can be accessed.

The ISS admin service is activated and running in services.

The default website Node can be accessed fine with no errors in the ISS MMC.

Able to access default website, companyweb and other ISS webites fine from a client PC attached to the server.

The only thing I can think might effect the configuration is we have a bit of a strange configuration on IIS. We wanted to install sharepoint Service 3.0 on the SBS server but had to install it side by side with 2.0. This is because Companyweb runs on 2.0 and if we over wrote company web it would completly cock up our SBS installation. The process we used is in the websites mentioned below:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 71966.aspx

and part 4 of this guide:

    http://msmvps.com/blogs/cgross/archive/ ... art-4.aspx

We have since also upgraded Sharpoint Services 3.0 to Sharepoint Server 2007.

Not sure if this is relevant but I believe it is the only other thing that can be affecting IIS.

    Thanks
    Andy

    Andy,

You are doing interesting things on your SBS. Running WSS 3.0 parallel to WSS 2.0 seems to be an odd thing to do. But I do understand the reasons. And if it is not enough, you've upgraded to MOSS 2007. *wow*

That's alot of stuff to handel for a SBS setup.

But as it comes to the IIS, you have to keep in mind, that the web.config settings are being inherited by sub folders (virtual directories). If a web.config setting in a parent folder should not be inherited by it's child folder, the web.config should contain a <clear /> tag for the appropriate setting.

Do you have the possibility to install the IIS 6.0 Resource Kit tools? The Metabase Browser is a good tool to manage the metabase (an therefore the IIS settings) in a more granular way.

    Cheers,

Tell me about it! This little sbs server is working its little cotton socks off 24 hours a day...we even had CRM running on it until a couple of weeks ago! Its madness...but I'm just following orders.

The reason we have WSS 3.0 running in parallel to WSS 2.0 is that we can not upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0 as it will break company web which is an integral part of an SBS installation.

Anyway thanks for your advice I will download the IIS 6.0 Resource kit and have a play with it. Is there anything in particular I should be using it to do?

    Thanks

Just one further quick question. Is there anyway I can install the website manually without using the automated process in the wizard. The only reason I ask is because I have been able to add other websites to IIS within IIS fine.

    Thanks
