"Incorrect credentials or insufficient permissions" when connecting to the cluster

I am trying to switch some monitored servers from connecting from a cname to connecting to the listener. After the switch, it started giving me a an error. I actually added the old cname back. Both of the the green boxes below resolve to the same server.

Is there some additional permission needed to connect through the listener/cluster?

The account already has those permissions - specifically, it is sysadmin on monitored server and administrator on the server. I also added the account to the cluster, although administrators on the machine should have already had full control.
