We're gearing up to celebrate Redgate's 20th birthday in October. To honour our milestone year, we are hosting a special birthday edition of
SQL in the City Streamed on Wednesday 4th September.
As you're all such an important part of our community, we'd love you to get involved by filming a birthday message. All videos will then be shown during the live stream.
If you'd like to take part, all you need to do is a film a short message to wish us a happy birthday and send it to
friends@red-gate.com by
Monday 19th August. This can be filmed using your phone, webcam or any other recording equipment.
Just in case you need some help with filming your message, we've included some top tips below:
Video:
- Raise the camera to eye
level or slightly above – this is easy if shooting selfie-style; if you’re
recording from a webcam it might mean putting your laptop on some books
- To avoid being a
silhouette, make sure the main light source is in front of you rather than
behind you – eg shoot so that you’re looking out of a window, and the camera is facing away from it
- It’s tempting to look at
the screen while you’re recording, try to look straight at the camera
- If you’re recording on a
phone or tablet, shoot horizontal rather than vertical
Audio:
- Try to find a quiet
space away from background noise
- Smaller rooms will sound
less echo-y than big rooms
- A room with soft furnishings
(carpet, sofas, blankets) will sound less echo-y than a room with hard
surfaces (tiles, wood, glass,)
- If you have access to
one, an external mic or headset will sound better than the microphone
built in to your laptop / phone / camera.
