Hi Jon,
Have you uninstalled and then reinstalled SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare since installing or upgrading you SSMS versions?A common cause can be that 'SSMS Integration Pack Framework 1', a package that our SSMS plug-ins use to integrate into SSMS 2014 and earlier, can become corrupted.
To resolve this issue, please follow the same steps outlined below:
Steps:
- Close any running instance of SSMS
- From Programs and Features, if there is still a program installed called "SSMS Integration Pack Framework 1", uninstall this (note: you may also have a "SSMS Integration Pack 1" installed, which should remain installed)
- Delete the folder c:\ProgramData\Red Gate\SIPFw if it still exists
- Reboot
- Reinstall or repair SQL Compare/ SQL Data Compare [(either option should repopulate c:\ProgramData\Red Gate\SIPFw with a new file.]
- Launch SSMS to check if the error still occurs
Let me know how you get on!

I have the following installed.
SSMS 17.9.1
SSMS 18.0
SQL Compare 13 (13.7.13.10771)
SQL Data Compare 13 (13.7.13.10771)
SQL Search 3 (3.2.7.2379)
The SQL search plugin appears in both SSMS fine. The comparison plugins however do not.
Any idea how to resolve?
Thanks, Jon.
