MS Word Doc never loads

I generate a database document in MS Word format and it creates but the document will not open in MS Word.  It just hangs and causes my CPU to heat up.

    Hi John,

Sorry you're having trouble with SQL Doc. What version are you using? If you're using SQL Doc 4 or earlier, this is a 32-bit application so the GUI is limited by the size of the database. We've made SQL Doc 5 64-bit which should allow you to document larger databases.

If not already, can you please upgrade to the latest version and confirm if you have the same trouble?

If upgrading is not an option, I would suggest using the command line tool which is 64-bit.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if there are any questions.

    Kind regards,

I am running the latest version.  It creates a file but MS Word can't open it.  I even tried on my Mac and get the same error.

    Hi John,

How large is the database? If you're using a .docx or doc file then you might have trouble with large databases which we recommend using another format such as a. html or .chm file as outlined in the documentation page below.

    Document (.docx and .doc)

We recommend generating a document (.docx or .doc) if you need to distribute an editable file, or if you wish to print the documentation.

The Portable Document Format (.pdf) file type is also suitable for printing. See Portable Document Format (.pdf).

Documents can be viewed in Microsoft Word and OpenOffice.org Writer.

Because of the large file size, we don't recommend this format if you're documenting large databases.
