Investigating waits, during the wait pikes on 3000ms/s backup is running and probably is the reason. Do you know if backup waits will directly affect user queries?

    Backups are reading from the disk (i.e. copying the files) so it could be some i/o impact if your backup is on the SQL Server, but the backups shouldn't cause SQL Server waits.
