Why close all Visual Studio instances if only installing into SSMS?

I was trying to upgrade to the latest SQL Prompt 9.5.2.9464 and only wanted to install into SQL Server Management Studio, yet the installation process still requested that all VS instances be terminated,

    Visual Studio and SSMS share some components, so they're locked.
