Does the data masker tool "De-Identify" the data or mask it like SQL 2016 Dynamic Data Masking?

I understand that SQL 2016 Dynamic DM masks the data as the data is queried.  Is this what your tool does?  How does it work for Pre 2016 editions?

    Hi Alan, 

    No, not quite the same. Our tool replaces the data with masked data. You only want to do this to obfuscate data on test systems so you have lifelike data that does not breach data privacy rights.

    SQL Datamasker works just the same pre or post-2016 editions.
