This looks great. Now I need to test it out!
Thanks folks! -
Hi @AlexYates
I and the development teams would love to hear how you get on with using Pre/Post scripts. If you have any feedback, get in touch with me so we can review how well this has been received.
Thank You! -
I will do when I get to it.
Right now I've got my head in ReadyRoll for my pre-cons in Joburg and Cape Town.
(I know it's not called that any more but you know what I mean when I say that - but you don't know what I mean if I say SCA because SCA is many things and hence a problematic naming convention.) -
I'm trying to upgrade now but the most recent release I see is 6.2.3.7820. (Yes, I have frequent updates turned on.)
Did you pull the release?
-
It's been pulled due to an unrelated issue. We're working on getting a new version out as soon as possible. I'll let you know. Thanks for trying this and sorry about the inconvenience.
-
Cool, thanks. Looking forward to trying it out when you get it out. 😊

It's back up now. Thanks for your patience and for trying this, Alex.
SQL Source Control v6.3 - https://documentation.red-gate.com/soc6/release-notes-and-other-versions/sql-source-control-6-3-release-notes. Remember to configure Frequent Updates in SQL Source Control > Help and then Check for Updates in SQL Source Control > Help. -
Cool - thanks for the heads up.
It'll have to wait a couple of weeks now. It's my SQL Sat Joburg pre-con tomorrow and I don't want to update the VM right now. I've not made enough sacrifices to the demo gods to try a stunt like that!

Hi Friends,
Yesterday, we released the ability to add Pre & Post-Deployment scripts to SQL Source Control, which can be deployed manually with SQL Compare or automatically with SQL Change Automation. This allows you to do things like alter database-level settings, manage role memberships, add customer specific data, and more as part of your deployment. Pre & Post-Deployment scripts are run before/after every release, so they need to be written idempotently. See Working with Pre & Post-Deployment scripts for more details.
Pre & Post-Deployment scripts are in SQL Source Control v6.2.4, which is currently available in the Frequent Updates Channel. If you have time to check it out, that would be great.
Make sure you are configured to see Frequent Updates under the SQL Source Control Help menu and then Check for Updates.
To use Pre & Post-Deployment scripts in manual deployments, this requires SQL Compare v13.4.7+. For automated deployments, this requires SQL Change Automation v3.0.4+. Both are available in the SQL Toolbelt.
If you have any feedback about this concept or have the chance to give it a try, we’d love to hear from you.
