Hi Friends,
SQL Change Automation is launching on Mon June 18th! It replaces DLM Automation and ReadyRoll because it includes the functionality from both tools in this new single offering from Redgate for database continuous integration and automated deployments.
We wanted you to be the first to know. ReadyRoll users will get an email this week and the tool will be available as part of the SQL Toolbelt download on Mon June 18th. Anyone with a supported SQL Toolbelt license we'll be emailed next week, since they'll all have access to this new solution as part of their active serial key. We’ll show the new solution in the “Optimize your database deployment pipeline” session at SQL in the City Streamed next Wed June 20th.
For supported users, this is an upgrade from DLM Automation v2 or ReadyRoll v1 to SQL Change Automation v3. It includes the functionality from both tools and won't affect any of their existing processes.
Why have we combined these?
- To better integrate both automation approaches (state and migrations) with the rest of our solution. Now, either the state-based approach with SQL Source Control or the migrations approach both have a similar setup for Build/Release and integrates with other functionality in the SQL Toolbelt (eg., generating test data or documentation, running tsqlt unit tests, and notifying SQL Monitor to better track if an issue is due to a release).
- To make it easier to move between approaches. We have found that some SQL Source Control users, which use a state-based approach, want to move to a migrations approach. Now, they can switch approaches and all their Build/Release pipelines will continue to work without requiring any extra setup on the part of the user.
- To simplify our offering and messages to users. SQL Change Automation is the solution for database CI/CD. We no longer have to say you can use DLM Automation or ReadyRoll to automate your database releases.
Currently, DLM Automation and ReadyRoll are both only available as part of the SQL Toolbelt. On Mon, SQL Change Automation will replace both of these in the SQL Toolbelt. The pricing and licensing (per user) remains the same. SQL Change Automation will work with any existing SQL Toolbelt serial keys that have an active support contract.
If you have any questions/comments, please reply below or feel free to get in touch with me directly. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can join us for SQL in the City Streamed.
