ReadyRoll now has a snazzy new set-up wizard!

Hi guys,

Any of you familiar with ReadyRoll will know that it hasn't always been the easiest tool to set-up on an existing database project. But with the latest release comes a great new set-up wizard, making the whole process take less than a minute, and fast-tracking the user to automating their database deployments.

If you or any colleagues/clients are wanting to speed up the build and release process with more automation but haven't used ReadyRoll, or have struggled with it, please refer to this blog post for more detail on the latest release.

Any questions or feedback please let me know :)

Great timing. I'll try it tomorrow at a bank in Brussels. ;-)

Thanks Alex. Let me have any feedback there may be, both your own and from your client :)

Generally it was fantastic. RR was much much quicker to refresh than SQL Source Control and the customer was *very* impressed.

However, the customer still didn't really understand what was going on. I mostly had to click the buttons and say "I know you don't understand this yet, let me just generate the project for you then I'll explain how it works".

Generally it just was not clear what the target DB was supposed to be. The CI db? the Prod db? Why do I need to put this in now?

And the Baseline scripts just existed without any real explanation. And when asked about the 'programmable objects' decision the customer had no idea what that was, let alone how to make a decision about it.

So generally the experience was good - but they still needed me with them to walk them through it.

Let me know if you want to chat in more detail.
