Unable to connect to the Redgate Client Service

I have just installed a trial version of SQL Toolbelt to evaluate SQL Compare. However I get the error "Unable to connect to the Redgate Client Service".

How can I get a new trial licence?

Hi ThomasH, you might have an issue connecting if you're not connected to the internet, is that the case on the machine you're trying to use SQL Compare on?

Hi dOCTOClone, I do have internet access on the machine running SQL Compare.

I have sent and email to the sales team and asked for an extension on the trial period, and it appears as though that has resolved the issue.

Glad this was sorted - I just wanted to chip in in case anyone else looks at this thread.

The Redgate Client Service is a Windows service that runs on your local machine. If your Redgate tools can't connect to it, the service may not have started for some reason. You can manage Windows services by running "services.msc" and check that the service is running.

Thanks Sam. I am running SQL Compare on a VM on my laptop and this morning SQL Compare started without giving the error. I did a shutdown of the VM yesterday and with the restart the services most probably started up correctly and that is why it is working correctly today.
