SQL Clone V2.2 Release - Now with role based permissions

Hey Friends,

Today we plan to release SQL Clone version 2.2 which allows users to manage who has access to SQL Clone by assigning roles to Active Directory Users or Groups.

Thanks to everyone who has helped out during the research phase. Your feedback has been instrumental to the design and scope of this release.

So what permissions can you set...

The permissions feature now lets you award users one of three roles – and change and update them at the click of a button. This removes some of the common headaches with provisioning such as jobs being delegated up to the DBA, holding up the team. With more granular access controls users can self-serve based on the access permission assigned. The three roles are:
  1. Admin - The 'Admin' role gives full control over SQL Clone, with the ability to add, change or remove roles, update licenses, and create images or clones.
  2. Standard - the 'Standard' role allows users to create images and then create clones from those images.
  3. Clone only - the 'Clone only' role limits users to creating images from clones.

Permissions has been high on the wish-list for users and we are really excited to release a feature that makes it quick and easy to allocate and change permissions.

We'll be posting a release blog shortly with more information on the new permission feature so stay tuned.

If you have any feedback on version 2.2 please email us at sqlclone@red-gate.com or simply post your comment below.

Thanks everyone!

    Hi Nathan,
FoRGs are able to get an NFR license for SQL Clone - if this is what you need we can get this set up for you, just let us know by emailing friends@red-gate.com.

If however you'd like to try out SQL Clone in your organisation and use it with your team, then the best thing to do would be to download a trial from the website: http://www.red-gate.com/products/dba/sql-clone/
