Next week we are going to announce the retirement of the
SQL Comparison SDK, so we wanted to make you aware of this before communications went out to customers.
This decision has been carefully made based on the fact that the SDK has two main use cases, neither of which are relevant any more:
- Automating deployments can be done via DLM Automation, making the SDK redundant for this purpose. Many customers have already adopted DLMA as it is a better approach.
- Microsoft have opened their own DACFx library for free, giving a free distribution alternative for customers that need a comparison SDK inside their own products.
There are of course a number of edge cases, however most of these can be replaced with a combination of DLMA and the SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare command line.
We’re also trying to simplify our offering to make it easier for our users to understand. By reducing the number of products we’re developing, we’re able to spend more time developing products that meet customer needs.
Existing users of the SDK will be able to keep using it for as long as they like. Those with license agreements will also receive full support for the duration of their existing agreement, but no further development will be taking place. We will review the support situation in a year’s time.
