Results from SQL Data Compare of msdb

Hello experts,

I have tried SQL Data Compare 12 with the msdb database on two different servers and get blank results. I mean totally blank - not a list saying all data is identical.

Does anyone know how to do this comparison correctly? Does it have to do with the permissions of the login being used to do the comparisons?

Thanks for any help.

    Hi @webrunner!

Is this from the command line or the SQL Data Compare UI?

If you go to Edit Project >Tables and Views, are the objects you want to compare selected and has a comparison key been set for each set of mapped objects?

I ran into the same issue using both the GUI and command line. SQL Data Compare appears to filter out system and is_ms_shipped objects when comparing. While that makes sense in most cases it would be a useful tool for comparing several things in msdb.

You're correct that Data Compare ignores most objects with the is_ms_shipped flag. There are workarounds for this (e.g. create a view for each of the tables in question and enable the Include Views option) though if you'd love to see this feature, I recommend that you upvote the idea on uservoice: https://redgate.uservoice.com/forums/141379-sql-compare/suggestions/2897256-i-would-like-to-use-sql-compare-to-compare-system

    Sam,
Thanks for the response. I'll give the views a try.
