Feature Request - Stop the forced update

Hi,

I use Reflector behind a work firewall. When the version eventually expires, I am asked if I wan to download a new version. If I click yes it fails because of the firewall - and it doesnt matter what proxy details I put in it always fails - and ifI click no then the program stops loading.

Furthermore, I work on a laptop. If I am away from an internet connection and Reflector expires (as it did lastnight), I cannot run it.

A more sensible approach would be to inform the user of the issue but still run the current version.

Many thanks,

Nick.

    Hi Nick,

As you can see in the forum we get lots of requests for this and we will certainly be looking at ways we can make it easier to work with offline in the future.

During the holidays I was in a situation where I did not have internet access for a full week. (Such places do still exist)
I had my server in a virtual machine so I could develop... Then I went to use the .NET Reflector... nothing. I could find no way to reflect.

James - is there any update to this situation?

    Thanks,
    Karl

I cannot use the tool because the update server and download url are down.

Please consider this feature request strongly.

Any updates on this issue? I just want to point out that this update 'feature' makes it unusuable for a large number of commercial developers.

I did come up with a workaround, it requires you having access to your HOSTS file, and the ability to change the time on your computer.

The basic deal is the the url it hits to check versions returns a version string. At startup, it always pings this url. I was able to put an entry in my HOSTS file for the download url, then I wrote a tcp server that spit back the correct string.

There is a certain date (about 3 months) beyond when you have downloaded a particular version that it will insist on downloading again. If you set your clock back appropriately, and have a fake server (with HOSTS) entry, you can spoof it.

Unfortunately this is tedious, and it requires you have extended permissions on your workstation, AND that you change your clock back every time you start the application.

So...when are ya gonna fix it?

I downloaded an older version of Reflector since it appears the download server is offline. When I launch Reflector, just like everyone else here it prompts to upgrade...in either case the program does not launch because I either answered No to the update question (why doesn't it run that version anyway?) and it removed the .exe file! Or if I replied Yes to update it returns an error "The remote server returned an error: (502) Bad Gateway. I press OK, and it removes the .exe file as well.

Please remove this feature soon...like yesterday preferable...

    Thanks,
    Mike
