What is the best way to upgrade while keeping all settings?

I am upgrading my sql servers from 2012 to 2016. Therefore I am upgrading from SSMS 2012 to 2016. And consequently, I need to upgrade SQL Prompts from 5.x to 7.x (since former doesn't support SQL 2016). I have a lot of custom settings that I made over the years (settings, snippets, coding style).

What is the best order to upgrade in order to keep all the SQL Prompt settings intact? SSMS and then SQL Prompt or the other way around or it doesn't matter?

    There is an automated upgrade path between a single major version but from 5.x to 7.x you will have to transfer your settings manually:
    1. Install SSMS 2016
    2. Create a copy the SQL Prompt 5 folder in "%LocalAppData%Red Gate" and rename it "SQL Prompt 7". If the folder already exists then overwrite it.
    3. Install SQL Prompt 7
