recently I wrote about the speed of Ants.4, I had noticed a huge decrease in performance and I 'assumed' that it was due to changes in the code. In that post I came back and noted that in fact the issue was with the anti virus program I was using.
To affirm that finding, I have removed CA-AntiVirus / AntiSpyware completely and find the launch time of my application whilst under profile is 1:05 mins. The obvious concern was that I wanted protection as well. Research led me to a product called Vipre, from Sunbelt Software, it offers anti-virus / anti-spyware, and from my tests so far it does not effect the profiling performance much, my application launches in 1:20mins, this is a big difference to the 5:00+minutes experienced with the other product.
