Deactivate Serial Number

I just like to check what "Deactivate Serial Number" does. I assume that when I stop using SQL Prompt on one machine and want to move it to my new machine, I can deactivate the serial on my old machine, unistall, then install on my new machine and register. Is this correct??
Just want to make sure befor I do anything.
