Does SQL Backup hold locks during backup?

With the regular SQL Server backup procedure locks are not held on the database during backup, we wanted to make sure before we tried using Red Gate's SQL Backup software that this was the case, in order to avoid any potential performance issues with our application during backups.

I tried searching your knowledge base and this forum and came up empty, sorry if this has been answered prevoiusly.

    SQL Backup does not hold any additional locks compared to regular SQL Server backups. See this documentfor details on what actually happens during a SQL Backup backup/restore.
