SQB service did not acknowledge receipt of data on cluster

I keep getting the following error message when trying to connect to my active/active clusters via the SQL Backup GUI:

SQB service did not acknowledge receipt of data. (WAIT_TIMEOUT

Restarting the SQL Backup Agent service resolves the issue. The backup jobs complete successfully without any issues, but does prevent doing a restore. Can someone offer some insight as to what is going on?
