Random failures of backups

I am experiencing failures of one or more of my backups on an almost daily basis. The errors are fairly consistant and are as follows:

Application Log
SQLVDI: Loc=SignalAbort. Desc=Client initiates abort. ErrorCode=(0). Process=1584. Thread=5932. Client. Instance=. VD=Global\SQLBACKUP_D0F1C0A7-E87B-47D4-99F2-E2B78F23530C_SQLVDIMemoryName_0.

Acitivity History
Warning 210: Thread 0 warning:
Warning 210: Error writing to backup file: (file path)
Warning: System error(The specified network name is no longer available)

Thread 0 error:
Error writing to backup file(s)

The server is running Windows 2003 (64 bit) SP2, SQL Server 2005 64 bit
The backups are to another server within the same domain.

Any thoughts on what to look for?

Thank you for your post, we have been looking for a fix for the crazy ping response times for awhile now. Did this issue resolve your backup errors?
