I just did the install. Went off, no problems. I then set up two connections, one to my sandbox server, the other to a development server, both 2005 sp2. I set a number of options to ignore (I'll get a complete list in a minute) and hit compare. It seemed to run fine, but now it's hung. I can see it system processes, but it's using 0 CPU. I checked both database servers, neither shows a connection from SQL Compare. I'll kill the connection and get you the list of options that I set.

OK. It cleared, for a second, when I went to kill it. It was showing results, but now it's hung again.
I was able to kill the connection. When I restarted it still had the configuration saved. Which is good.
I set these options:
White space, Comments, Full Text Indexing & User's permissions
In More Options:
Force Column Order, Fill factor and index padding, Filegroups etc, Extended properties, User properties, with element order
I went ahead and re-ran the compare. It shows all the objects being registered & compared and then shows the completions screen. This time when I went past the completion screen, everything seems to be working.
I'll let you know how it goes from here. -
Thanks Granted,
Thanks for all the information, we will look into this and hopefully get it resolved for the final release. If you spot it again can you take a note of it, and let us know how often you are seeing it.
Just a few extra questions:
What OS are you running the client on? XP, 2003 or Vista?
Did you have SQL Compare 5 installed on this client machine too?
Regards,

Hello,
I do currently have 5.0 installed on this machine. I'm running XP Version 2002 sp 2.
I will keep an eye out for it. I'm running through the tool trying stuff out. So far this is the only problem I've hit. -
I too have had SQL Compare Beta 6 hang on the first comparison after the install. Here's the info:
OS: Vista 32-bit
Version 5 Installed: yes
Comparison: Folder of scripts vs. a SQL Server 2000 database. Default settings.
Symptoms: It finished the comparison just fine. It's hung on the window that shows the differences between the two databases. I had to kill it with the Task Manager. When I restarted SQL Compare and ran it again it worked.
Let me know if you need anything else. -
it hang for me on the first comparison - 2 SQL 2000 databases on 2 different remote servers. After killing the program in Task Manager and then reopening it everything ran smoothly.
OS: Windows XP SP2
SQL Compare 5 Installed: No -
Thanks everyone for letting us know about this. We have seen it internally now ourselves but are still searching for a common factor.
At the moment this is just a first run issue and resolves after you restart SQL Compare.
If anyone encounters this after the first run of the Beta, please let us know.
I will get our developers on this ASAP and will keep you posted.
Thanks again,
Jonathan
