SQL Compare 6.0 beta released

We have just released the first public beta for SQL Compare 6.0. The full version of SQL Compare 6.0 is scheduled for release towards the end of June 2007. The beta offers you the chance to have your say now on how the full version will take shape.

SQL Compare 6 includes the ability to compare and synchronize to and from object-level SQL scripts, making database schema source control much more easily handled. For the top two beta testers – by quality and quantity of feedback – we’re offering a DeWalt 18 Volt XPR cordless power-drill system, worth $299. Download the beta here: http://downloads.red-gate.com/SqlCompare6Beta.msi

In addition to comparing and synchronizing to and from object-level SQL scripts, SQL Compare 6 contains many enhancements to its user interface. We have improved searching in the comparison results as well as in the detailed differences panels. We have also improved our project selection dialogs.

Installation

To install please run SqlCompare6Beta.msi and follow the onscreen instructions.

You will be able to use this beta for three weeks. If you have SQL Compare 5 installed, you will be able to continue to use the two products in parallel.

Requirements

SQL Compare 6.0 requires Windows 2000 or above and .NET framework v 2.0.

Licensing

This software is pre-release and thus is not supported, therefore you are advised against running this beta on production systems. You are licensed to use this software in a capacity as a beta tester. This license to use SQL Compare 6.0 Beta lasts until June 20th 2007. After this date SQL Compare 6.0 beta will become non-functional.

A bit more of a detailed feature list for you:

    Scripts Data Source
    - It is now possible to use a folder of scripts as a data source. This gives users the ability to read and synchronize to and from object level SQL scripts

    UI improvements for projects management.
    - It is now possible to browse to project files located outside of your Local Settings directory.
    - And the list of projects is searchable too

    Main grid upgrades
    - We have implemented an incremental search feature for the main comparison grid.

    - We have added a new group by object type view to the main grid. Also for those of you who like the SQL Compare 4 style grid, it is now possible to remove the groupings.

The SQL Differences panel has had a bit of an overhaul, we have added:
    - Jump to next / previous differences buttons
    - A line viewer
    - Line numbers
    - Improved line highlighting
    - An overview scrollbar so you can quickly see where the differences within objects are
    - Find within scripts has been updated too

Anything else? Hmm, oh yes, if you have sp_renamed an object SQL Compare will now fix the name for you.

There have been a lot of bugs fixes too, I will post a full list of these fixes in a few days.

Sorry, I should have locked this topic after my post as any discussions here will probably get lost.

I have split the various bug posts after the feature list out into separate posts, where they will be answered individually.

I am now locking this topic.
