A couple of thoughts:

I like the new activity history. It is much easier to read, sort, and understand than the 4.x version.

Not sure how the calendar view will work for me as one of my servers has over 400 databases on it and it runs transaction logs every hour (soon to be every 20 minutes) and full backups. Since this is production server, I can't install it on the server to see how it would look.

For the restore,
a. When you choose Browse for files, would it be possible to have it remember the last drive/location. My processes are pretty automated and as such, the files are always located in the same directory.

aa. Also, many times I will have to restore many transaction logs when restoring a database, would it be possible to add a drag and drop onto the Backup files grid from explorer in Step 1 of 3 of the wizard?

b. When I restore a file and I put to a New Database but don't edit the Database File names and finish out the wizard, it obviously fails because the file already exists but the final dialog box doesn't allow me to go back and fix my errors and retry, rather I have to go back through the entire wizard

c. In step 2 of 3 in the restore wizard, the Edit Database File Names option is cumbersome to rename the "Restore As" box. When I try to expand the columns the Restore As doesn't expand very large and I must tab over. It would be better if both could be expanded and a scroll bar appear at the bottom of the window so that both could be expanded.
it also didn't retain my settings of the New Database when I got back to the wizard screen.

In the options, I do like the lesser number of tabs. However, for me, with the large number of backups that I do on several of my servers, the number of log files that gets generated was cumbersome to manage. Also the delete process on this was reading through each file to find out if it needed to delete it or not and it did this during my backups and would increase exponentially as the number of log files grew in this directory. (I had a help desk ticket in on this once). Would it be possible to write to a log file once per day instead of a log per backup/restore?

Will there be any change to the log shipping or will be pretty much the same as the 4.x version? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well that is it for tonight. I will continue to play and let you know my thoughts....time to get back to work....

Since it is late and I am sure some of my thoughts aren't too understandable, please send me a PM if you have questions.

Thanks and keep up the good work. I like what I am seeing....

    Hi.

Thanks for all the feedback. The log shipping wizard has been re-designed to be easier to use than in 4.x, and there are a few new options, but otherwise it will be fully backwards compatible.

    Thanks
    Alan.
