Linked Servers

I'm not sure exactly what SQL Prompt is trying to do, but I've had a window open on my machine for ~30 minutes saying that it is "Saving to snapshot file" for a linked server (over a VPN connection).

Not sure if this is a bug in the program or something else that causes this particular problem but the only way to get rid of the window is to close out of the Management Studio (it's "locked" up as well) and restart it. While staying out of any direct queries with my linked servers.

    That's interesting because we don't actually support linked servers, since a linked server can be virtually anything, even a text file I think. Are you sure it's trying to load data from the linked server? Is there any more information you could give me about this?

    Some very large database schemas do take a long time to load - about the longest I've seen here is 20 minutes, however if it sits there for half an hour and isn't using any CPU time then I'd say it's probably dead, and in that case any information you can give us that might help us isolate the problem would be extremely useful.
