Hi Helen, James

I have downloaded the beta and have been playing setting up some scenarios. Unfortunately I have only a single machine to workworth and hope to have a range of machines in a couple of weeks.

My initial impression is that its easier to work worth. Having 'played' with the previous version but not used it entensively this one seems easier.

The timeline was a little hard to get used to but now that I see it - looks good. One other poster said that you can see if a database is scheduled or not by looking at the timeline - can't see this though. If I mis-interpreted than this would be a good feature - being able to look at a schedule and see what databases are scheduled and when would be good.

Apologies - I have been trying to automated and pull together a lot of information into a single enterprise management system and this has changed my focus for the moment. I know there are a lot of EMS out there but not a lot of companies can afford them so I'm putting some bits together.

One thing that would be good for this, is an ability to email success or failed backup jobs, so that if you don't get an email assume that its all ok.

Would you consider opening up your information to scripts that could be executed from a web interface?

I have used and recommended your tools to a number of people and have always liked them - keep up the good work!
I'll send more when I can play more with this

regards
john

    Hi John,
You can see the jobs on the timeline which are scheduled to run backups using SQL Backup. From the user interface you can use the Schedule Backup Jobs wizard to create jobs to backup datatases on a recurring basis. These are then displayed on the timeline.

One thing that would be good for this, is an ability to email success or failed backup jobs, so that if you don't get an email assume that its all ok.

This is possible. When creating jobs through the SQL Backup GUI you can select 'Send email notification' on Step 5 and select to 'Send on failure only' if you only want an email when there is an error. This uses the MAILTO keyword in the script (see the help file for more information). You will need to configure the email settings from the Options dialog from the Tools menu.

    thanks for feedback so far.

    Hi Helen

ok I see the email option - sorry must have been blind.
Just now I created a scheduled job-reocurring but it missed its scheduled run. Also I still cant see the job marked as scheduled in the time line GUI.
I can see it in the Jobs tab but not in the gui.

I'll keep playing, it is as you say there but its just not obvious to me yet - maybe I'm still blind.

    thanks
