I see in the Release Notes that SQL Server 2000 Query Analyzer is a "supported editor". When I use that version of QA to connect to a SQL Server 7 database, I get "SQL Prompt could not retrieve the database schema". Connecting to SQL Server 2000 with the same QA works OK. Is/will SQL Server 7 be supported?

Hi,
I'm afraid SQL Server 7 is not supported.

Bummer. Since SQL Prompt 2 works with SQL Server 7, it didn't occur to me that SQL Prompt 3 wouldn't. We're stuck with a legacy product for much of our database work that cannot be moved to a newer version of SQL Server. I take it that there are issues on the server side, not just with the QA client? Any prospects for SQL Server 7 support?

have you tried it using sql 2000 qa or sql server 2005 mgmt studio? Maybe it works even if it isn't supported...

Yes, SQL Server 2000 QA. (SQL Server 2005 Management Studio won't connect to SQL Server 7).

I'm afraid there are currently no plans to support SQL Server 7.

As Tilman says unfortunately we can't support 7 due to issues with our meta-data model.

I lied. There was a tiny bug-ette in my code. I've now fixed this so SQL Server 7 *should* work in *many* cases in the final release. We're not really officially supporting it, but you should be fine. In the meantime if anyone needs SQL Server 7 support can you please contact me directly at bart.read@red-gate.com.
Many thanks,

Hmm ... what sorts of things won't work? We're trying to decide whether we'll actually be able to use version 3, or would be better off just sticking with version 2. Will we be able to try the version with your fix prior to the final release?
Thanks. -
After a bit of casual testing by me I have to say it all seems to be working fine, much to my surprise. The only real test though is to work with it on your own databases and see if it does what you want.
