Smart rename fails on a column

Hi, I have a sql 2000 database and am attempting to rename a column in a table that has 83 columns. The table is used once in a view and once in a stored procedure, it also has a trigger.

When I invoke smart rename it asks for the new name, which I enter. On pressing next, the central tabbed display appears and the spinning wheel displays, but then the form just closes itself and nothing happens.

I have tried several times and its the same each time.
