Hi,
I think you are encountering a timing issue here. If you press '(' before the candidate list pops up it obviously wont insert. If the candidate list pops up before you press '(' it will always insert, given you have enabled parentheses in the options.

"where x in ("
The "(" sometimes triggers the first item on the list being selected.
If you do it over and over, sometimes this issue is there and sometimes it isn't. Maybe it's a timing thing?
If you type ( and it just shows the list, delete the ( and the preceding space and type the space and ( again. Sometimes it 'completes' and sometimes it doesn't.
