Error running Management Studio under different credentials

To access production databases we are required to use different credentials to that which we normally logon with.
If you change the properties on the shortcut that starts Mgmt Studio and check "Run with different credentials" you get the following error:

"The Add-in 'SQL Prompt 3.0' failed to load or caused an exception.
Would you like to remove this Add-in?
If you choose yes, you will need to reinstall the Add-in to use it again.

Error Message: Class not registered

Error number: 80040154"

    Hi,

Most likely this is, because we only install SQL Prompt for the current user. Could you try installing it for whoever you are running SSMS as and tell me if that works?

    Thanks,

    Hi Tilman,

I tried out your suggestion, but it didn't fix it.

I logged on as the other user and installed SQL Prompt.
Tried launching SSMS and got the same error.

Then logged on as normal user and still getting the error there too.

    Sorry....

I got the exact same problem...any resolution? When I run SSMS under the logged on user account it works like it should, however for me to be able to use the program I need it to work under alternate credentials also.

Hope this will be added to the "to-do" list before release :)

    Hi again,

Then logged on as normal user and still getting the error there too.

Could you give me some info about your system? Mainly what version of SSMS are you running? Did you install SQL Server 2005 SP1 + hotfixes? Are you running on Vista, by any chance?
Hope this will be added to the "to-do" list before release

Yes, we will probably give users the option to install for all users.

    Regards,

Don't know about the vista-dude but it works like a charm now after a bit of tweaking. What I did is this (User1 is regular user, User2 is alternate user):

    At first:
    - Logged on User1
    - Installed SQL Prompt
    - Started SSMS as User2
    - Got error #80040154

    Then:
    - Logged off computer with User1
    - Logged in with User2
    - Installed SQL Prompt again
    - Verified that it worked in SSMS
    - Logged out as User2
    - Logged back in as User1
    - Started SSMS as User2
    - Everything works like a charm

    :)
