I purchased PromptSQL 1.1 months ago am a great FAN , I run it on my home PC with lots of processor and memory with no problem , but on my work lap top , i can type quicker than "it can think" . I assume its a rsources thing on my Lap top Pentium M 1.4 GB and 500MB Ram.

Is this normal , can it be addressed by setting options , I have tried to no avail

    Hi Mike,

Are you still seeing this behaviour on SQL Prompt 2.0 as well, or just the older PromptSQL?

I'm using v2. For the last 40 minutes, RedGate.SQLPrompt has been running at 99% CPU utilization, and is currently at 707, 140k memory footprint and climbing at a rate of 20k/second.

Turning SQL Prompt off in the Options didn't change the behavior.

    What gives?

Okay, and how's this for terrifying?

I told SQLPrompt to exit, the memory footprint dropped about 30MB immediately, but then began climbing again. The icon is out of my taskbar, so who knows that's happening here now.

Gonna the process from Task Manager now.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for your feedback.

Make sure that if/when you do download it you backup your snippets in the configuration file first as the SQL Prompt 2 installer has a small side-effect in that it uninstalls previous versions of PromptSQL. This is one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time to avoid conflicts between the different versions, but has unfortunately caused problems for a few people.

We have made some efforts to improve the performance, however due to the coding acrobatics needed to make it work with things like Query Analyzer there's a limited amount we can do on this front. Things may improve again in version 3, which should be available sometime in September if all goes according to plan.

    Hope that helps.

    Many thanks,

    Hi there,

Thanks for reporting this. Honestly at the moment we're not sure why this is happening so I can only apologise for the problems you're seeing. I'd say it's almost certainly something to do with the caching of meta-data: how large/complex is your database schema? We are aware of some performance and resource usage issues with the current version, which we're going to be addressing for version 3, however I can't guarantee a huge improvement if you're in the kind of situation where you've got 20,000 tables in your database or something like that.

Sorry I can't be of more direct assistance at the moment.

    Many thanks,
