Possible to add authentication to web site?

I have the SQL Monitor 3 web site on IIS 8 and would like to add authentication to add a second layer before accessing the site itself.

I tried enabling Basic Authentication and Windows Authentication to the site. When accessing it the dialog asking for credentials shows up... Once, twice, three times then it fails with HTTP error 401.1

Is anyone using authentication and if so, what configuration please?

    Thanks for your post.

    I'm not currently aware of anyone using Monitor with extra security in the way you describe.
    We've got an existing request to support authentication via your existing accounts which you may want to vote on, see here or you can add your own comments/suggestion on that site if you require something a little different.
