Problems connecting to (local) server

Hi,

when trying to connect to the "(local)" SQL 2005 server, the connection fails with the message "SQL server does not exist or access denied".

But when using the machine name instead, the Windows Authentication works and the list of databases is populated.

Ok, everythings fine, when you setup the TCP/IP library for SQL server correctly :)

    Hello,

FYI using Computer Management to move the TCP/IP network library to the top of the list also helps quite a lot with network problems when connecting to SQL Server 2005. The named pipes driver isn't nearly as reliable when used with SQL Compare. Sometimes the connections break in the middle of a compare with 'internal network fatal error' and other strangeness.
