Thanks for your post. I think in the past, I've managed to get around the "client name not recognised" problem by going into p4v, connecting to the workspace being used for SQL Source Control, then Connection > Environment Settings.
In there, untick the "Use current connection" tickbox and you can enter the CLIENT value you need.
