problem finding a local mysql server (xampp)

I am having problems creating a project that uses my XAMPP-hosted local mysql server.

The server is seen fine when I am developing locally. My options:

server: (local)
SQL Server Authentication
user: root
pass: *blank*

Click on the 'Database' dropdown and I get the

"A network-related or instance-specific ..."

error message.

Am I missing something? Is this possible? As I say, the local mysql server works fine when PHP developing locally etc.

    Thanks for your post.

    I think you're encountering this problem as SQL Data Generator only supports SQL Server databases, not MySQL databases.

    If I've misunderstood what you're doing, please do let me know.
