.net reflector 5 said there was an update, said it could not automatically download it, didn't mention .net reflector 6 (which is supposed to be still be free), showed me the reflector 7 website, and then deleted itself! What the hell?

Can you try it again now, please? It should work fine.

Still doesn't work.
"This version of .NET Reflector is out of date. Do you want to update automatically?"
I click Yes.
About 15-18 seconds later, it pops up this message:
"Unable to connect to the remote server"
When I click OK on that, the exe file deletes itself (again). (I didn't get a prompt from Windows Firewall, but after re-copying the exe, and adding an exception for it, and trying again, the results were the same)
I'm guessing you've changed the server address since whatever version this is. -
OK, thanks. I suspect it's probably looking for aisto.com, which now appears to be defunct. However the domain name does belong to us, apparently, so I'm going to try to get it recommissioned temporarily, which may well fix this problem.
Thanks,

Hi there,
www.aisto.com is now available again for the auto-update service. It can take 24 to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate so you may not be able to access it immediately.
In addition you may find you need to flush your own local DNS cache in order for the lookup to succeed. To do this, open a command prompt and execute the following command:ipconfig /flushdns
If you're still having problems, please let me know.
Thanks,

Apologies: we were still having an issue with the web server, however I can now confirm that updates to .NET Reflector 6.8 from .NET Reflector 5.x are working correctly.
Many thanks,

It said "A new version of .NET Reflector is available which can not be installed automatically. Please download at 'http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet/'."
That webpage says:
Server Error
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. -
Sure, there are no web pages there, but Reflector isn't trying to load the homepage: there's a file on there with the latest version details in it. You should be able to upgrade automatically from version 5.0.0.0 onwards (v5 originally released February 2007).
Can you bring up the file properties for reflector.exe and let me know what the version numbers are, please?
Thanks,
Bart -
File version shows as 4.2.51.0.
Interesting. The readme I have is for version 5.0. I think I know why. When I first ran reflector.exe before making this report, it deleted itself. That was probably 5.0 and went with the readme. I then checked to see if I had a backup - the only thing I had was a zip file in another folder containing another reflector.exe, which I extracted. I didn't check what version it was at the time (it's the version I just gave above, of course), but it was probably a much older version instead of what was deleted (what I had originally installed reflector from), since reflector auto-updated before the changeover to red gate, IIRC. I didn't use it much after that, but not really because of the changeover. -
Give it another try. I don't guarantee that it'll work, because that's a very old version of Reflector, but if the update mechanism hasn't altered it should be fine.

It worked this time - it downloaded 6.8 and I was able to go through the registration and all that.
Many thanks. -
Excellent. Glad it's sorted!
