How does 'copyto' work?

Does it create the local copy first, then copy that to the second location? How would that work if you had two 'copyto' locations, on 2 different servers.

Example: Server A backs-up database A, with a COPYTO server B, with a COPYTO server C.

Yes, that is exactly what it does. It creates the primary backup file(s) first, which could be local or remote, then copies those file(s) to one or more COPYTO locations.
