How can we help you today? How can we help you today?

Reflector v6 with no expiry date for existing users, but...

So now you're telling me as a "current user" I can continue to use v6? Wow! That's awesome!!! Oh wait, v6 deleted itself earlier and you are not offering a download so that I can get it back.

So really, nothing changed. Just a fancy press release to make yourself feel better. Still evil.

Am I missing something?

v6 had a well-documented time-bomb which would delete the program one month after its expiry date. Your copy of v6 is probably the one that will delete itself at the end of May if you don't update.

If your copy of v6 has self-destructed, and you don't have a backup copy, I'd be inclined to contact Greg [1] to see what your options are. From what I can see, RedGate have egg on their face and are desperately trying to win people back, so they should be fairly reasonable.

Yeah, I hadn't used reflector in a while, so whatever version I had contained that awful time bomb. It doesn't even warn you that it will get deleted if you answer 'no' to upgrading. You click no and then you're presented with a quick message to the effect of 'deleting reflector'. And you have a WTF look on your face like, what just happened? Try to run reflector again... gone. I guess that makes me a former v6 user, so I don't qualify to keep it... or something.

I never kept a backup because (in the past) you could always just go download it again if you needed it. Well, that's changed now. So I guess I'll be trying ILSpy.

Yes, the press release is a bit of a joke. My copy got deleted well before this press release was issued. As a result, I'm out of luck.

I'm all for companies making money, but this entire process has been unbelievable. From software installations with time bombs to "Oh we messed up so you can continue to use 6.x if your copy hasn't deleted itself yet" announcements, this has turned into a comedy.

Because of their SQL tools, I used to be a Red Gate fan, but I'm done. I just throw away all of the Red Gate crap from the code camps. I'll just use the tools from their competitors.

I feel bad for their employees. If sales take a hit because of this, the employees will pay the price for their management's incompetence.

    Hi everyone,

The autodelete behaviour was removed in build 6.2.0.17 (I'm not sure this build was ever released publicly) but, regardless, just unzip Reflector.zip and run reflector.exe again. Then click "Yes" at the update prompt, and you should be good to go if you're running a 6.x build. At the moment it'll download .NET Reflector 6.7, which WILL expire again in a couple of months (an iterim release to tide us over), but then you'll be able to grab 6.8, which won't expire... or you can just hit Help > Check for Updates once you've updated to grab it as soon as it's released (likely to be available within the next 3 weeks or so).

If this doesn't work for you, please let us know.

    Many thanks,

    Bart

There are dozens of existing users whose copy of v6 has self-destructed.

OK, looks like the mis-communication monkey strikes again!

What if my version of Reflector has deleted itself?
This means you have not used that particular copy of .NET Reflector for at least 13 months.

What if I have downloaded a trial of version 7?
Version 7 installs alongside version 6 so just find your version 6 copy and follow the procedures outlined above.

This little nugget should really have been part of Tuesday's announcement.

I don't know if I should feel insulted now or just think this is comical? Bart, you obviously aren't reading these messages. You say in your message that all I need to do is unzip v6 and run it again. Let me state it clearly:

VERSION 6 DELETED ITSELF. I DON'T HAVE VERSION 6 ANYMORE.

Other users upgraded to v7, so they don't have v6 anymore. So your post was useless. Really, this retraction from red gate was worthless. Jedi mind tricks... this is not the download you're looking for lol. By not providing a link to download v6, you have done NOTHING to help the situation. In fact, it's making you look even more dishonest because you're trying to claim you rectified the situation but really you haven't. You're just trying to make yourself look good to the community and hope no one notices.

For a lot of people, reflector either deleted itself or they upgraded to v7. In either case, they/we don't have v6 anymore and you aren't providing us with a way to get it.

RichardD is doing more to help people out than red gate.

We won’t be providing a download link for people that have not used Reflector for over a year. That said the delete mechanism does not delete the original Reflector.zip file so you can just unzip and run Reflector.exe again. All you need to do is click ‘Yes’ to be upgraded to the latest version.

User: The software deleted itself and I don't have the zip file.
Red gate: Just unzip it again and run reflector!
    User:
    <repeat>

Translation: If you haven't used the software in over a year, we're pretty sure you aren't going to upgrade to the paid version so we don't really care about you.

Uh, thanks for the help, I guess.

The smartest thing Red Gate could do at this juncture is to completely reverse their decision and support ongoing a free community version of Reflector.

Develop the paid version and feature sets as they have as a VS add-in.

But they've shown they are not very smart.

So the community will leave, and people will realize that paying all that money for basically calling up something from VS as opposed to just using it externally isn't worth all that much. The only thing worth all that is the step-through debugging feature.

Still we cannot use PWB because there is no space. We have to make a free gap between the reflector surface and LED to make sure the LED light doesnt focus at one area on a surface. So, instead of PWB, i use copper sticker for the circuit to increase the gap.
