I have installed SQL Monitor on our Management server but am having problems connecting to SQL instances in different sub domains. I am receiving a status of: Connection Failed - Unreachable.

I am using the fully qualified machine name as stated in the help and have also checked on the servers I am trying to connect to that the WMI and Remote Registry services have started. The service account user is a domain admin across all domains so the security credentials should not be an issue.

However, there is a firewall between domains.

When I click on show log I have seen the following extract in the help:

Unreachable
The host machine is offline or does not exist (no response to Ping request), or one of the required services (WMI, Remote Registry) is not started. Check that your machine is not behind a firewall.

I can not ping the server as that is blocked by the firewall, is this all that is required to be opened up on the firewall or is there more ports?
I had similar issues trying to connect SQL Response through sub domains and was hoping SQL Monitor would overcome this.

thanks in advance.

    Hi,

This is the link to the help which lists all the data collection method which SQL Monitor uses along with simple tests to check whether they are configured correctly or not.

I can assure you that monitoring a server behind firewall is our top priority. We have this in our roadmap and this will soon get improved in one of the point releases.

    Thanks and Regards,

There's also a help topic 'Accessing SQL Monitor through a firewall' which may be of interest too.

Ok i'm a bit late replying to your comments so apologies, other priorities took over.

I have tried the methods in the link for data collection methods and unfortunately due to working in a secure environment most of them fail.

Is there a list of ports etc that are required to be opened on a firewall between the monitored servers and repository so i can armed so to speak to my network guys?

    thanks

Great, thanks for the link Chris.

I'll grab our network guy on Monday and see what ports are closed.

    thanks,
