SQL DataCompare toolbar button grayed out

What would cause the button to be unavailable? I have two databases I just finished synchronizing with SQL Compare, but the SQL DataCompare button is not available. I can exit SQL Compare, open SQL DataCompare, open the SQL Compare project and do the data compare fine. The SQL Compare button is available when I start from SQL DataCompare.

Thanks,
Traci

The following forum post details a cumulative patch that should solve your problem:

I installed the cumulative patch and the SQL Data Compare launch button is still grayed out. I tried an existing project and creating a new project.

    Thanks.

Any news about this annoying bug? We have it at several computers, Sql Compare Professional version 9.0.0.79. It sometimes works from Sql Data Compare to Sql Compare, but the other way never.

I'm sure the patch suggested above prevents the problem from happening in the future, but I'm not sure if it actually fixes it. The problem was a duplicate registry key left behind by a previous version of SQL/Data Compare. Try deleting the eldest subkey in

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Red Gate\SQLToolsInstalledProducts\SQL Data Compare

For instance, if you do not have v8 installed, delete the "8.0" subkey.
