Unable to Close SSMS on SQL Source Control 0.4.1.2 Upgrade

Greetings,

When I tried my first upgrade to 0.4.1.2 using the slick "Check for Updates" functionality, I got an error message during the update because it couldn't close the application (SSMS) during the upgrade. The modal "Connect to Server" dialog box was open at the time, which explains why the application couldn't close. The upgrade appears to have completed successfully, despite the message that it couldn't close SSMS. Could this have caused any problems during my upgrade? If so, should I try applying the upgrade again, and if so how? Should I try re-installing the product, and if so how?

<constructive criticism>
Both the dialog from the "update" step that runs at startup of SSMS and the "Connect to Server" dialog box come up at the same time when there is an update to apply. The "update" dialog doesn't let you click to close the "connect" dialog while it's active, so the only thing I could do on another machine was to cancel the SQL Source Control update, dismiss the "Connect to Server" dialog, then do a "Check for Updates" from the Help menu. This seemed a little awkward; maybe there's a better way to do it?
</constructive criticism>

Let me know if you think I should be OK or if I should re-apply the upgrade somehow.

Thanks in advance,

    Hello,

    Are you using Win7 x64? This is a known issue (SOC-675) on this OS...

    The upgrade completed successfully, but you won't be able to use the new version until you restart SSMS. If you restart, and then select Help on the SQL Source Control tab > About, could you verify that your version is v0.4.1.2?

    FYI - To reinstall, you can uninstall SQL Source Control from Add/Remove Programs and then download the latest version from the announcement posted at the top of this forum.

    Thank you for the feedback. This is only an issue on Win7 x64, which we hope to fix at some point. On all other OSs, you are prompted to close SSMS yourself and you can not install until you do so. On Win7 x64, it just tries to close SSMS by itself without warning you.

    It may be best on the "Check for Updates" to click the "more information" link. This will bring you to a page with the download link. You can then close SSMS and start the download. I know this is kind of an awkward workaround for now, but at least you can be sure that there won't be any problems with the update.

    Thank you so much for reporting this! I hope this information helps.

    Hi,

    Apologies for not specifying the details. I am running Win7 x64, so it sounds like you're already on top of it.

    The current version does show as v0.4.1.2, so it looks like everyting is A-OK. (I like the Asteroids game by the way... Nice touch! :lol: )
