Purchasing SQL Source Control upon Release

  There are no plans to include this with the SQL Comparison Bundle, as this package doesn't include the Pro versions of SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare, which are essential to synchronize from a scripts folder to a database.
  
  However, there will be an attractive upgrade path from the SQL Comparison Bundle to the SQL Developer Bundle, which will almost certainly be the most cost-effective option for you. We haven't finalised the fine details and pricing just yet, so please bear with us.
  
  If a developer just has the SQL Source Control add-in, they will be able to commit and retrieve changes to and from source control. For v1.0, retrieving changes from anything but 'head' won't be possible from the tool, although this is planned for a subsequent release. However, in most cases, manually converting a CREATE script into an ALTER will be straightforward, so applying a historic object version from source control to your development database shouldn't be a problem, especially for stored procedures.

  Will customers be able to purchase SQL Source Control separately, or will it ONLY be available with the SQL Developer or SQL Toolbelt bundles?
  
  It would be a big mistake, in my opinion, not to offer a purchase option that allows for the purchase of just the essentials needed for SQL Source Control. You are filling a HUGE need in the development community with this tool, and filling it quite well I might add. If my client has a team of 10 developers who just need to be able to check things in and out of the repository with SQL Source Control, and he can't afford 10 copies of one of the bundles, it's going to be a hard sell to convince him he needs SQL Source Control.
  
  I'd strongly recommend a "standalone" flavor of SQL Source Control, if that's at all possible, or at least a version that contains only the minimum parts of SQL Compare that are required to make Source Control work. Heck, a bundle of SQL Compare and SQL Source Control for say $595 would be much more palatable than requiring a purchase of $1,295 per seat.
  
  Please consider this so you don't price yourself out of a lot of business. Once people see the quality of your tools, you'll get a lot of upgrades as well!!

  It is very much the ethos of Red Gate to provide choice and flexibility to its users, and therefore we develop tools that not only work in conjunction with other Red Gate tools, but also as complete standalone entities.
  
  The price of standalone SQL Source Control has yet to be finalised. The likelihood is that it will be in line with the pricing of other Red Gate SQL Server development tools. The SQL Developer Bundle as a single license is indeed $1295. However, there is a great price break if you consider a 5-user or 10-user pack, bringing the unit cost down to $779/user and $720/user respectively.

  Thanks again, David. I'm glad to hear that SQL Source Control will be available as a standalone product. Sorry if I misunderstood. I didn't mean to imply that you wouldn't make it available as standalone; I just wasn't sure if that was possible given how tightly coupled with SQL Compare it seems to be.
  
  And thanks for the info about the volume pricing on SQL Developer bundle. That will definitely help on the up-sells when customers see the value of the product.

  Any news on pricing now that the beta is coming out? I really hope it's not "in line with the pricing of other Red Gate SQL Server development tools". I think the product is amazing but anything over $100 per seat would be a deal killer for us. VisualSVN (For SVN VS integration) has a great price point of $50 per seat and it's easy to sell this amount to upper management for the feature set your getting in return. I realize there is much more involved with integrating VCS with SSMS but it still comes down to the same thing basic functionality.

  If you have the SQL Toolbelt or the SQL Developer Bundle, and provided you took the support and ugprades option, you'll get SQL Source Control at no extra cost.
  
  If you don't have support and upgrades, I believe that there is a way to 'upgrade' to this option. Or you could of course purchase it separately. Please email sales@red-gate.com for more details.

  5 users = $1,195 ($239/user)
  10 users = $1,995 ($199/user)
  
  With Support & Upgrades:
  1 user = $369
  5 users = $1,494 ($299/user)
  10 users = $2,494 ($249/user)
  
  Two questions:
  
  1) Are there any plans to offer discounts for beta testers or for customers who have other Red Gate products (e.g., SQL Comparison Bundle)?
  
  2) When purchasing a license that includes support and upgrades, is there a cost to renew the support and upgrades? Is that an annual cost? What is the cost?

  One other question I should have asked that I think the forum users would be interested in: has any timeframe yet been decided when the "trial period" on the release candidate will expire and users will be required to purchase a license? I have a couple of clients that I've introduced SQL Source Control to that will be interested in knowing the expected time for that expense.
