Match Whole Word / Match Case

I'm not exactly sure what the "Exact match" checkbox is supposed to do, but a "Match Whole Word" option would be very helpful.

Example: A search for "Approved" (excluding quotes) returns objects with ApproveDate or ApprovedBy even if the Exact Match box is checked.

If I search for "Approved" (including quotes) with Exact Match checked I get nothing, but with Exact Match UNchecked, I get objects returned with nothing highlighted that contain Approved and/or ApprovedBy text within. (Bug?)

Search engines allow the use of double quotes (to specify a search for a specific phrase etc.) and logic keywords like AND and OR to help with the searching. Could this be added? It might clarify/simplify the usage. Also, are there any plans to allow case sensitive searches? I guess what I'm looking for are some of the same features you would have if you did a Find (Ctrl-F or Ctrl-H) in SSMS.

    Hey Jeff,

    Thanks for the feedback!

So right now we don't recognise quotations but it's something we've been thinking about. I think right now we don't do exact search perfectly and one of the problems is that everyone does have a different view as to the best way it should be implemented.

Some people expect to see the exact string match for object names but want substring matches within the text of the object. Others prefer it to conform to the same behaviour no matter what.

So both behaviours you describe are working as intended, the first search you do is an exact search and it will find substring matches within text with approved but not object names. The second search you do will ignore the quotation marks and just do a search on the word and give you results with object names and text matches for substrings.

I think your suggestions of using keywords and quotations are definitely worth some thought and I have logged them (they were actually already logged but I've added your feedback to them.

maybe a "whole word" option would solve the problem for "Approved"
