Currently this is the default behaviour but I'll certainly take a note of your feedback.
I can see it possibly being a bit confusing if it changed to the same database on a different server. How would you feel if it just chose the first database in the list on the new server as opposed to master?
What do you mean by having the server selected before the database?
Thanks for the feedback! -
Just thinking that maybe the order of the 2 dropdowns could be reversed

Sorry forgot to reply to the original bit.
If the order of the dropdowns could be reversed, then defaulting to master on change of server would not matter as this is the default behaviour when changing connection in ssms.
The problem that I see is that If you have a number of databases open in object browser, you work from left to right.
i.e. enter a search string, select the objects, select the server, then select the database. currently you have to go past the database to the server and then go back to the database.
Hope this helps. Great product BTW very useful. -
Ahhh I see what you mean now. Yes that does make sense.
It's something I've constantly looked at and been like "am I happy with it like that?" The problem is it's hard to see what a good default behaviour would be but I certainly think we need to look into it more. There has to be a way to switch between servers with less intrusion.
Thanks for your feedback though, it's logged! -
"Swap to same DB in next Server" is definitely the default behavior I'd want if you pursue this approach.
The way that Multi-Script works would be good to port to Search... As in, let us define lists of Servers and Databases and let the dropdown allow us to select a list, then be able to check/uncheck each db in the list and hit the (not there yet) "Search Now" button.
At the very least, if you could give us some options we can all be happy to one degree or another.
(Wish SSMS behaved like the original poster suggested, instead of "master" just because that's my login default DB... Bites! Lost count of the number of times I've added a table to master - OOPS!)

could it either
Check if the currently selected database name exists when changing to the new server and keep it selected if it does
OR
have the Server selected befor the database
