I'm having the same issue. It seems the latest version they released has a bug (this never happened to me until about a week ago and I use this product every day). I've found if you add/remove other server connections in SSMS it now forces a reindex. I can usually get it to work again if I remove all but the one server connection.
My guess is if you connect to two servers that have a database with the same name it causes it to freak out and error. / comments

I recommend upgrading to SSMS 2016 (it has a lot of improved features) and make sure you only connect to one server at a time. That seems to fix this slow indexing and zero search results bug (until they get it fixed). / comments
