Hi Neil,
it's coming back now.
I connected to the database using query analyzer (the first time I had done this since the install of v5), and I can now force Sql Data Compare to connect by typing in the alias of the server. So maybe some sort of registry thing ?
The server does not appear in the drop down list of servers though (as it does in Query Analyzer). But I can work around this.
cheers

Ok,
I have a remote server registered (through the SQL Client Network utility).
I have v4 and the beta of v5 on my machine.
I'm using SQL Server 2k.
In v4 when running either of the compare utilities the alias of this server appears in the drop down of registered servers.
In v5 the server is NOT in the drop down.
If I try and force the issue by typing in the server alias, then the application hangs when I try and select from the database combo.
p.s. This is great functionality in v4 - a real selling point....
