Hi Chris,
Originally we thought we would release in the new year and add more features to the GUI, but we decided to finish the release testing and get the new engine features and bug fixes into customers hands sooner, largely from customer feedback.
Network Resilience support for restores had been something we had been asked for quite a lot and was fairly high priority.
We also wanted to release our new RESTORE related commands which allow you to restore the latest full or differential backup from a folder or from the activity history.
Finally, we felt that the new multi-server activation wizard could save DBAs with a large number of servers a reasonable amount of time so was worth getting out in the wild.
Sorry for messing you guys around and I hope you enjoy the new functionality.

Hi,
We have no immediate plans to release 6.3 as we have released 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2 in fairly quick succession. We constantly review issues in the field and try and make a judgement call against the severity of these issues vs the work we create for people to update when we release a new version and try and balance the two sides of this.
We have made several hotfixes available to customers so if there is a pressing issue you are facing please contact support@red-gate.com.

Hi Chris,
It is SQL Server which controls these underlying permissions so they are unlikely to have changed in v6. I have just had a look in BOL and have not found anything conclusive. If you grant a login the dbcreator role then they can
Members of the dbcreator fixed server role can create databases, and can alter and restore their own databases.
This might be sufficient in the scenario you are looking at. I am not 100% sure but the db_owner not working might also be due to orphaned users (See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274188 and the database being offline.
I will ask a few people around the office if they know the answer to your permissions issue.
The second issue you describe is due to bringing a database online before applying the diffierential. In this case there are partially complete transactions which may have been rolled back etc and once a database is online other changes might have occured so SQL Server will not apply any more backups. / comments

Hi,
You can backup directly over a network to a remote machine without writing to the local disk first but we generally advise against this as it will mean the backup takes longer. Just specify the UNC path in the GUI or the TSQL command.
You may also want to look at the network resilliance options available in SQL Backup 6 to avoid any minor network outages causing your backup to fail.

Hi JS,
We are currently in the fairly early stages of SQL Response v2.0. We do not have a release date yet or a confirmed feature list but we will have an Early Access Program starting later this year. We are also doing a lot of research at the moment with exisiting users.
If you would like to be involved in the EAP and user research please let us know and I will get one of the team to get in contact with you.
Thanks,

Hi js,
Could you send us as much information about your cluster as possible? (OS + SP + any other updates, installed instances + version + bitness, any other software installed on the system, how you installed SQL Backup, any recent fail overs etc). Feel free to email support@red-gate.com with the information if you do not want to publish it here - plesae include the url to this page when you do so.
